So lets see what needs to be done to maintain that gorgeous mane.

Alopecia due to improper hair care:

In my 20s, I never took care of my hair. No oiling, shampooing, conditioning. I regret the sheer torture I put them through.

With time, I started having terrible hair fall. Hair was everywhere, literally, and my maid was getting irritated as it became difficult for her to clean the floor.

And then, one day while oiling my hair, I felt my scalp super freaked out.  I immediately checked and found there was big bald patch, round, not a single hair in it!!

I broke down and luckily my side bangs (see you can never go wrong with bangs) hid it well.

We went to a dermatologist next day who told me its alopecia and said there in no treatment for it. It will eventually grow up and I might get more at some point. That really scared me, as he had no empathy. That day forward, I started reading about alopecia and hair care tips.

Fortunately, those tips worked boon for me.

9 Sure-shot hair care tips for lustrous hair:

Through this post I am sharing a couple of proven hair care tips with you.

#1.Eating right

Yes let’s start with basic.

Vitamins especially biotin, iron and zinc along with proteins are essential for hair growth.  Make sure your diet includes the sources of these such as milk, eggs, cod liver oil, and spinach. You can also take vitamin supplements; however check that with your doctor first.

#2. Minimize the use of chemicals

Using shampoo with chemicals is as good as washing your hair with detergent!

You sure wouldn’t want that, would you?

Mild hair products, gentle shampoos and sulphate-free shampoos are good to use in daily routine.

You can buy our homemade herbal hair wash.

#3. Oiling your hair

Choose the right oil for your hair type. Stick to the hair- oil that suits your hair texture.

The benefits of oiling are immense. It promotes growth, nourishes and gives shine and luster to your hair.

This is how I use oil to care for my hair:

Warm coconut oil (never warm the oil directly. Immerse the bowl of oil in hot water, just warming is necessary). Add a few garlic cloves, curry leaves and shallots or onion; this makes a perfectly natural hair care tip for all hair types.

It not just promotes hair growth, also is anti fungal and prevents dandruff.  Alternatively, you can add these to the bottle of coconut oil and leave it entirely once, so that the goodness of the things added will ensure nourishment to your hair.

Keeping the hair well braided post-oiling works best.

#4. Limit the use of blow dryer

Do not use a blow dryer every now and then, and if you are using it make sure you use a heat protection serum first.

#5. Take care while coloring hair

While coloring your hair, use a vegan hair color or one sans ammonia. Also use shampoos and conditioners fit for colored hair.

#6. Comb and tie your hair

Always opt for a wide toothed comb to detangle your hair. Be gentle to your hair while combing and do it twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. Refer to the post on why wooden combs are the best for your hair.

Never comb or brush wet hair, as this will increase the chances of breakage.

Don’t tie your hair very tightly, as it might cause strands to weaken.

#7. Use a hair masque

Use a hair masque at least once in a month. A good masque will nourish, moisturize and deep condition your hair. It also makes your hair less fragile. You don’t need to visit a salon; this can be done at home.

#8. Use a scarf

While wearing helmet make sure you use a scarf. Also when there is too much of dust or pollution use a scarf to protect your hair from accumulating dust.

#9. Trim them at regular intervals

Depending on your hair growth, trim your hair at regular intervals. This will help your hair grow flawlessly and get rid of split ends.

5 Handy natural products for hair care:

  • Castor oil

This oil can do wonders to your tresses. However it is sticky so, always mix it with coconut oil/any oil that you use daily.

  • Aloe vera

Aloe vera is a magical herb. It helps in hair growth, prevents hair fall, prevents dandruff, maintains healthy PH balance of your hair and also prevents frizz. This can be used to replace your hair serum.

The gel or juice can be directly applied to hair or mixed with you hair masque or hair oil.

  • Lime juice

Lemon helps in treating dandruff. It can be mixed with aloe vera or onion juice.

  • Egg

Get your keratin treatment done at home. Egg is 70% protein and the benefits are numerous.

Use it as hair masque (optional: Mix it with olive oil or coconut oil)

  • Olive oil

Olive oil helps in deep conditioning and moisturizing your strands. You can mix it with your daily hair oil too.

So go ahead what are you waiting for? Go try these evergreen hair care tips to get that healthy and lustrous mane. Pamper your tresses and do share your hair-care pick.
