In search of grooming tips for moms who have no time for themselves? You are in the apt place!
One fine day I go to drop my nephew to school. He’s suppose to reach school by 7 am , so I get up early jump off my bed and in my track pants head towards the school.
On reaching I have a look at other moms who have come to drop off their kids and OMG I feel scandalized.
Is there a mom’s fashion parade scheduled today? I see beautifully dressed women with their MK and coach bags, guess glasses, manicured nails and make up; I mean it’s 7 in the morning. How do they manage all this in time?
I was tempted to ask if they go to sleep decked up like this. I take a quick look in my car’s mirror – that kajal from last evening has smudged all around my eyes and I am wearing my floppy mickey t-shirt and my bushy hair. That is the moment I realized that grooming and styling are 2 aspects very important for women of all age group.
You have to be presentable all the time because not only your kids represent you but the vice versa stands true as well.
7 Sure shot Grooming tips for moms:
Being a mom is a full time job. Here are some quick grooming and styling tips for all lovely moms who are working or not always short of time.
#1. Skin care routine
Start your day by splashing cold water on your face. Use an exfoliating face wash once in a while.
Have a habit of washing your face at least 2 to 3 times a day and do not sleep with your make up on, that’s a big NO! It will leave your skin dry and ruthless.
Apply a lotion to keep your skin supple and fuller. Try applying night cream once in a while; you will be surprised how your skin looks rejuvenated the next day.
Once a week try the DIY neem masks for face. It will brighten up your face clearing out the marks, pimples and scars.
#2. Nailing it right
I know you are a mom and have your hands full but take a break and treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure once in a while. It will help remove stains and keep your nails healthy. Check out the article on how to do a pedicure at home all by yourself.
Don’t grow your nails too big, cut them to decent size. Use a gel nail paint it dries quickly and lasts longer.
If you do not have time for saloon, skip taking your mobile to washroom for once and rather use the time to cut or trim them 😛
Having a nail paint on is not important, but keeping your nails clean and healthy is indeed important especially if you feed your baby with your hands.
#3. Tress talk
Life’s no Disney movie.
The Disney princess gave us such unrealistic expectation about hair. I am sure all you ladies will agree, if your hair looks better you feel more confidant.
Get your hair trimmed at least once in 4 to 5 months, it helps with the growth and makes your hair look fuller. Try and avoid heating tools as much as possible.
Do try doing hair spa that helps to maintain your hair moisturized and groomed. Read why I switched to wooden combs for my hair.
In my college days, I use to straighten my hair at least once in a week and eventually it took a toll on me leaving my hair dry and life less. On my visit to doctor for hair supplements he said something that will remain with me forever, “Only if you are not confident inside you feel the need to please other my decorating your exterior appearance. Be confident with who you are and not what people will like you to be”.
As much as that is true I still straighten my hair once in 3 months 😛
Look for easy to do quick hair style tutorials online and invest in hair accessorize, they are cute and add that extra zing to your look.
#4. Dress to Impress
New moms, it can be stressful to dress with the extra baby weight but please understand loose and baggy clothes make you look nothing but fuller.
Dump all your maternity clothes or resize it to your current size. It is very important to wear well fitted clothes.
Invest in well fitted denim and it goes a long way. Dress keeping your stature and body type in mind. For example: if you are short, wear a vertical stripped dress to create an illusion of a taller you.
Kim Kardashian makes most of her famous shape with waist centric pieces. A belt brings her little middle in to focus. We are no kardashians but irrespective of our body shape we can definitely dress to impress!
#5. Got my Eyes on you
Did you know a person sub consciously guesses other persons age by looking at the eye?
Dark circles and thinning of skin around the eye makes you look older. Make it a habit to apply an eye cream around your eye every night and massage it in circular motions with your finger ring.
To hide dark circles, apply a yellow based concealer one or two shade lighter than your skin tone under your eye, dust a little yellow based powder to lock the concealer in place for the day.
Try using a mascara if you have not used it before. Mascara make your eyes stand out. Use a kajal, the simplest of all eye make up to enhance your eyes.
#6. Doll it up
Why are we women so afraid of accessorizing their look? Or are we just lazy and want to play safe?
When you accessorize you can make your boring outfit look versatile. Buy a multicolor neck piece to go with every outfit. You will be surprised how it enhances your plain white top, or try a black or pearl long neck pieces to go with your dresses. Wear cute bracelets.
Oxidized bangles and earrings always seem to work with kurtis and Indian dresses. Do not be afraid to accessorize your look at the same time do not go overboard with it. You surely do not want to end up looking like lady gaga.
#7. Keeping your heels, head and standard high
When I saw Sarah Jessica Parker in the movie Sex and the City, running in her 5” heel to the love of her life I wished the same for me except for I will end up with multiple fracture if I ran with those heels!
I was always afraid of high heel but still was tempted to buy one. So I started with kitten heels, and then gradually shifted to block heels. They are extremely comfortable and I could walk in them for hours. Then came the time to try stilettos and after buying a comfortable, well cushioned pair I kicked myself for not trying it earlier. I am not saying it’s completely painless but totally manageable for a 3 – 4 hour party.
They say,
Bellies and flat sandals are good and comfortable to wear for daily use but nothing can dazzle your look the way a pair of high heels can.
Do not forget to keep those valuable babies clean. And remember to keep your heels, head and standard high!
