benefits of multani mitti for face

If you dabble in home remedies for keeping your complexion glowing, chances are that you have heard of this wonderful ingredient.

Well, it’s hard not to, because multani mitti has been an important member in the world of beauty. It has been used from olden days to solve a number of beauty problems. The properties of this wonder clay makes it capable of handling a wide range of problems from toning to dandruff.

What is multani mitti?

Multani mitti is nothing but a type of clay.

The name multani means from Multan, a region in Pakistan. This clay is said to have originated there, hence the name. Multani mitti is also called Fuller’s earth or Fuller’s Clay.

Multani mitti is formed from decomposition of volcanic ash and it contains a lot of minerals.

Apart from the use in beauty treatments, it is also used in a lot of other ways. Actors in movies use it in place of dirt. It looks the part but is safer than actual dirt. So now you know how they all look so good! All that dust and grime you see in action sequences are actually helping them look better!!

Fuller’s clay is also used for bleaching oils and other liquids, polishing marble etc.

25 Amazing benefits of multani mitti for face, skin and hair:

Here are the 25 benefits and reasons why you should buy multani mitti or fuller’s earth for your skin and hair.

#1. Cheap

I wanted to start of this list by putting a smile on your face (and your hubby’s too) 😛

This wonder ingredient will not burn a hole in your pocket!!

At times, we tend to judge the effectiveness of a product based on its price, but don’t let the price tag fool you in this case. The low price is actually inversely proportional to the range of benefits you get if you actually use it. Simply put, it is worth every penny you spend and probably more!

#2. Excellent exfoliant

Multani mitti is excellent in the role of an exfoliant. It helps to remove the dead skin cells gently.

You can easily make a scrub at home with some multani mitti and rosewater. Make it into a paste and scrub away.

#3. Pore cleanser

This mud here can clean your pores and leave your skin feeling clean. It is a very effective pore cleanser for those who have to travel a lot battling dirt and pollution.

A simple mask made of multani mitti and rose water can do the trick. Apply it on your face and let it dry and wash it gently. Remember to avoid the area around the eyes though. This is also effective in the removal of black heads and white heads.

#4. Sweat absorption

If you have sweaty feet you can use Multani mitti as a foot powder. It absorbs sweat efficiently and leaves the feet odor free. You can do that by mixing some talcum powder and Multani mitti.

#5. Tones the skin

Multani mitti is also beneficial in toning the skin. Make a multani mitti face pack and apply it on the skin for getting toned skin. It also helps to close the pores. So if you are worried about enlarged pores, give the good old multani mitti a try.

#6. Removes wrinkles

As you age the skin loses its elasticity and starts to sag. It also gives rise to wrinkles. You can reduce this to an extent with multani mitti.

Make a paste of egg white, curd and multani mitti. Make sure you beat the egg white well or else it will be difficult to get a smooth paste. Apply this on the face and wash it before it dries completely. If it dries completely it can stretch your skin out too much and we need to avoid that.

As this facemask has egg in it, it might not smell pleasant, but resist the temptation to scrunch your nose. Just relax and try not to move any facial muscle when this facemask is on.

#7. Curbs acne

If it is acne that you are worried about, fret not. Multani mitti happens to be a forerunner when it comes to pimple remedies.

A paste of neem leaves and multani mitti can easily solve your pimple problems. Neem has anti bacterial properties and multani mitti has anti- septic properties. Together they can provide relief to even the worst cases. It helps to soothe the inflammation and help the pimple dry out faster.

#9. Removes pigmentation on the neck

If you have got dark patches on the neck or are experiencing blackening of the neck area, make a pack of multani mitti with some rose water, red sandalwood paste and a pinch of turmeric. It will help you see excellent results.

#10. Removes tan

I am not a fan of summer; it is because I have a skin type most foreigners would love to have. I tan, really fast and it refuses to go. So after trying out a lot of products, I found one trust worthy aide. You guessed right- Multani mitti.

If you are also like me and need something effective to get rid of tan, then look no further. A pack made of multani mitti and curd will help to lighten the tan, if used regularly.

 #11. Sunburn

Yet another summer complaint is sunburn. Most of us are not that careful when it comes to following a proper skin care regime.

Keep in mind a proper skin care regime doesn’t mean the usage of expensive products. All you need to do is to follow the basic steps with the right products.

Using a good sunscreen when you are out in the sun is one such thing. Most of us do it but when it comes to reapplication of sunscreen during prolonged exposure to the sun is one thing we happily forget. The result- A nasty sunburn.

Fortunately Fuller’s earth can help you here too. You can use the pack mentioned above to soothe the inflamed skin. Apply it gently, do not scrub or else it will worsen the condition. Wash it off with cool water and pat dry. Apply some aloe vera gel after that.

#12. Savior of oily skin

I am ‘blessed’ with an oily skin. So believe me when I tell you that this is effective.

A simple and easy face pack made with multani mitti, cucumber juice and besan. Make a fine paste using some rosewater, apply it on the face and wait till it dries completely.

Wash it off using cool water and pat dry. Spritz some rosewater using a spray bottle.

This is effective in treating rashes caused due to insect bites, skin allergies, and reaction to make up products etc.

But keep in mind not to use fuller’s earth on open wounds.

#15. Improves circulation

Multani mitti is effective in improving the circulation. After applying a facemask that has multani mitti if you feel that your skin is glowing, don’t think your eyes are fooling you. It is because of enhanced blood circulation.
